Main ‘Threat’ in Northern Dancer?

Triple Threat (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}) looks to get back on track in Sunday’s GI Northern Dancer Turf S. at Woodbine. The Team Valor International and Gary Barber homebred got up to win by a nose with Lasix added in his U.S. debut for Hall of Famer Bill Mott in the GII Monmouth S. June 7, then showed little interest when 11th over a yielding going in a stormy renewal of the GI Arlington Million Aug. 15. The two-time group winner in France has worked twice since the Million, including an easy four furlongs over Saratoga’s Oklahoma dirt course in :49 3/5 Sept. 7.

Lucky Speed (Ire) (Silvano {Ger}), hero of the 2013 G1 Deutsches Derby in Germany, split the field in fourth when making his first start in North America in Woodbine’s 1 1/8-mile GII Nijinsky S. July 19. The Northern Dancer 5-2 morning-line favorite relished the increased trip with a smart tally in Arlington’s GIII American St. Leger S. most recently Aug. 15, only his second attempt of the season. He blew out three furlongs in :37 4/5 here Sept. 8.

Danish Dynaformer (Dynaformer) seeks to continue the hot hand for his owner/breeder Charles Fipke. The bay takes on his elders for the first time after posting a runaway win in the prestigious Breeders’ S. over course and distance Aug. 16.

Interpol (English Channel), second behind Ami’s Holiday (Harlan’s Holiday) in last term’s Breeders’, followed a fifth-place finish in the Nijinsky with a 21-1 upset in the GII Sky Classic S. last time Aug. 16.
